Minnetonka Wins Great Oaks Invitational

RESULTS
Minnetonka High School helmsman Robbie Allen and crew Laurel Brown sailed very consistently to take the Great Oaks Invitational Regatta title by six points over Oconomowoc HS's Connor Trepton, Katrina Debbink, Ben Otten, and Dan Groskopf. Minnetonka finished as both the overall winner of the Great Oaks Trophy and the Babs and Larry White Trophy for the best performance by a first time high school team. There were twenty seven high school teams from all across the United States. The regatta was hosted by the Southern Yacht Club on Lake Pontchartrain just north of New
Orleans from November 14 and 15, 2009.

Grosse Pointe Takes MISSA

Grosse Pointe took first place overall at the second annual Midwest Interscholastic Sailing Association's Keelboat Championships, hosted by Grosse Ile Yacht Club the weekend of October 24-25. Teams from Grosse Pointe, Traverse City, and Loyola Academy along with two Grosse Ile teams sailed J-22's, a small four person keelboat, which gave the sailors a different perspective than the one and two person dinghies they normally sail in high school events.

Loyola Rolls To Talbot Title

Loyola Academy crews placed both first and second overall to take home the Jimmy Talbot Memorial Regatta title. Twenty four (24) teams representing thirteen high schools from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin competed in HS 420s in a A/B format. Shea, Kiss, Howard and Declercq Qualify For 2010 Cressy Nationals

With participation of young sailors at an all time high at MISSA events, the qualifier for the 2010 National Championship Cressy Trophy hosted by the Sheridan Shore Sailing School in Wilmette, IL was no disappointment. Thirty five (35) Laser Radial sailors and fifteen (15) Laser Full Rig sailors travelled from across the Midwest to compete for four spots available allocated to MISSA at the coveted Cressy championships to be held on October 31st and November 1st in Corpus Christi, Texas later this year. MISSA’s qualifier was a huge success, not only due to the impressive turnout, but the variety of sailing conditions offered by the weekend and some very close competition. Loyola Prevails Over Grosse Ile at
GI Invitational

Loyola Academy battled Grosse Ile in both the 420 A and 420 B divisions before taking the overall crown at the 7th annual Grosse Ile Invitational Regatta. The event attracted 70 sailors from 9 schools, representing four different states. The competitors completed more than 50 races in four classes over two days of racing in Michigan at the Grosse Ile Yacht Club.

Record Turnout for Kick Off Event

The Sheridan Shore Sailing School in Wilmette, IL ushered in the beginning of the fall 2009 season with a huge turnout at their Kick Off Classic Regatta. More than 130 high school sailors travelled from throughout the Midwest to attend this first event of the season! Schools from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan were all well represented among the 23 teams in the 420 Division, 7 Lasers and 18 Laser Radials that participated.
